The Dordogne, a region of south-west France is one of the most beautiful destinations in the country. There are many chateaux, beautiful medieval towns and villages, unspoilt countryside and famous prehistoric grottos to be discovered.

 

Markets:  Weekly markets in many villages throughout the region

 

Shopping:  Villages of St Robert (5 mins drive) and Badefols d’Ans (6 mins drive),

 

 

Hautefort (supermarket) 15 minutes. Terrasson (supermarkets) 25 minute.


The towns of Brive and Perigueux with complete range of shops, hypermarkets, restaurants, cinemas are at about ½ hour and ¾ hour distance respectively.

 

Schools: Nearby schools with transport (equivalent to Primary and Secondary schools).

Climate – Reported to have about 2000 hours of sunshine a year.


Summers - warm-hot (25-35 degrees) with occasional storms and showers, although colder spells can arrive and last a day or two. Early morning can still be quite mild! Spring and Autumn - similar to UK but not so warm (22-28 degrees) with a greater chance of rain - especially in late spring. Winters - although usually mild, tendency for occasional short periods of cold weather (down to -10 degrees sometimes) and more frequent rain (especially late winter and early spring).


The weather is rarely 'grey' and even during the winter the sky tends to be bright and sunny!

 

Access –an area well served by roads and airports. Airport connections to points across the UK and Ireland.


Airports: Distance from airports: Brive la Gaillarde 50 minutes, Bergerac 1 ¼ hours, Limoges 1 ½ hours Toulouse 2 ¼hours, Bordeaux 2 ½ hours.. The routes continue to expand and cheap prices can usually be found giving affordable access from almost anywhere in the UK.
